Army finds 5,000ft IPOB/ESN fortress, makes weapons haul

The Nigerian Army’s Joint Task Force, operating in the southeast region, has destroyed the military command center of the Eastern Security Network – the armed wing of the outlawed secessionist group named the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB.

The army, in a statement, revealed that well concealed command center is “located in the Mother Valley and spans Orsu and Ihiala LGAs of Imo and Anambra States.”

The army added that the ESN fortress “is about 5,000 feet below sea level in “the well concealed and forested location.”

“It affords the terrorists good cover from air surveillance… and serves as their command and control centre and military council headquarters,” the army said.

The statement said the troops made a haul of weapons during the raid, such as “weapons, equipment, IEDs and stolen vehicles.” Also recovered from the location are a laptop, a sim registration machine and four units of Point of Sale machines. The army’s Joint Task Force says it “will continue to provide all security support to communities” and urged residents to call 193 whenever they suspect strange faces or suspicious movements.
