Supreme Court adjourns Kanu’s trial till Sep. 14

The Supreme Court on Thursday adjourned hearing in the appeal filed by the federal government against the release of separatist leader Nnamdi Kanu.

Kanu is the leader of the outlawed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) seeking dismemberment of the southeast and contiguous states from the Nigerian federation.

The case before the apex court stemmed from an ongoing suit at the federal high court, Abuja Division.

The trial judge, Binta Nyako, at the previous hearing date last November, acquiesced to Kanu’s lawyer Mike Ozekhome’s request for indefinite adjournment.

Ozekhome had premised his request on the need for the Supreme Court to dispense of the federal government’s appeal.
