Kano creates new emirates to support Sanusi
Kano state house of assembly has passed a bill to establish second-class emirates, which it says would provide support to the pre-eminent emir, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi – the emir of Kano.
Deputy Speaker Muhammad Butu-Butu had sponsored the bill titled “Kano State Emirates Council Establishment Bill, 2024”.
The new emirates are Rano, Gaya and Karaye Emirates. The new emirates are the same as those created by former governor Abdullahi Ganduje, save for Bichi which the new bill excluded.
Until his deposition through the new chieftaincy law, which repealed that promulgated by Ganduje, the defunct Bichi emirate was ruled by Nasir Ado Bayero, the younger brother of Aminu Ado Bayero, the deposed 15th emir of Kano.
