Kaduna govt. wants ex-gov. El-Rufai tried for money laundering

Kaduna State House of Assembly has asked anti-corruption agencies to prosecute former governor of the state, Nasir El-Rufai, for abuse of office and money laundering.

An ad-hoc committee, set up by the House and chaired by Hon. Henry Zacharia, said it investigated and found El-Rufai liable for the alleged offences.

The committee alleged that the former governor and some others who served in his cabinet had obtained loans for construction of specific infrastructure projects but diverted the same. It said further that the past administration, in some instances, ignored due process in awarding some  contracts. It therefore recommended those indicted for prosecution.

TheCornet reports that El-Rufai has fallen out with his successor, Senator Uba Sani. Sani had served in the previous government. Recently, Sani said publicly that the El-Rufai administration left it a huge debts and some uncompleted projects.

His comment was greeted with a pushback from some El-Rufai’s supporters, who wondered how Sani had turned to criticise the loans he supported and favikiated while he was a senator.
