Man who took me on dinner date ended up stealing my phone – woman

A woman was in a daze when she returned from a restroom in the restaurant she had been dinning with a man to find her phone missing. She could no longer find her date either at the table they both sat. The shocked dinner recounted that a man invited her to the date, on the pretext of getting to know her before a relationship.

The woman said that she turned up at the date alongside her sister. The meeting was fine until the two young women excused themselves to visit the restroom, with one of them leaving her phone on the table with their host. They would later return to find that both their date and the phone had disappeared.

The victim’s sister said she tried calling him immediately, but he had switched off his phone. They resolved to file a complaint with the police, who launched an investigation. The police said surveillance cameras installed at the restaurant showed the man seizing the phone while the sisters were away.

During questioning, the man admitted to taking the device, an act he attributed to his taking alcohol. He said that he disposed of the phone by throwing it away on his way home.

The police hauled the young Arab man before the Dubai Misdemeanours and Violations Court, which sentenced him to one month in jail and fined him Dh2,500. The court also ordered his deportation after he must have served his term, according to a report by Dubai based newspaper, Khaleej Times.
