Three men arrested for singing inside mosque

Three men have been arrested for singing inside a mosque, a report has said.

A BBC report says Egyptian authorities arrested three men after one of them was allegedly filmed singing and dancing in a mosque. The video of the men in the mosque later went viral, engendering their arrest.

The said video reportedly had the accused man singing along to what locals call a mahraganat song. It is a type of electronic music which authorities have labelled inappropriate and therefore forbid their performance.

Critics have condemned Egypt’s human rights record under President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, including the arrest of several activists on his watch.

Egypt has previously denied there are political prisoners in the country.
