ICPC detains police trust fund directors over multi-billion naira graft

The Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) has allegedly detained a director working in the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF), according to a report.

Thegazellenews is reporting that the said director, identified as Oluseyi Fatuyi, is under probe for alleged employment racketeering and diversion of public funds. The report states that Fatuyi, together with two others two other directors, Mohammed Yahaya and Mustapha Ladan diverted over N5.2 billion.

According to the report, the trio carried out the act by conspiring three others said to be their subordinates. They are Sebastine Onyemaobi, Abi Francis June, and Hammed Zubair.

According to a police source, humongous amount of money were found in the bank accounts of many staff of the ad-hoc agency. The discovery led investigators to believe the NPTF is a conduit for the siphoning of public funds.

“They could not explain how they came about the money and that’s why they were detained. They accepted to refund the money while one of them have been asked to resign his appointment,” the senior police officer who did not want his name in print said.

Amid the allegations, the ICPC’s chairman Bolaji Owasanoye, confirmed the probe of the agency. During a recent function, Owasanoye cited the “abuse, fund diversion, questionable welfare packaging” by NPTF officials.
