HoR Leader gets N500bn in murder trial

A Federal High Court hearing a case of arson and murder against the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives Alhassan Ado Doguwa granted him a N500 bail on Monday.

Doguwa’s co-defendants, namely Nafiu Musa, Hamisu Amadu and Abdulhadi Alaramma are said to be at large.

Part of the charges against Doguwa states, “That Alhassan Doguwa was charged with burning a building that resulted to the burning of Alasan Mohammed and Aminu Malam Amadu to death, while Bashir Yani, Labaran Sule and one Amadu injured by the fire. ”

The offences are contrary to Section 97, 114, 247, 336 and 221 of Penal Code.

Doguwa’s lawyer, Nureini Jimoh, filed an ex parte application pursuant to Fundamental Rights Enforcement Procedure Rules.

In his ruling, Justice Mohammed granted  Doguwa the bail sum, adding that he produce two sureties who shall be permanent secretaries in the service of the state or first class traditional leaders in the like sum.

The judge also asked Doguwa to drop his international passport with the Deputy Chief Registrar of the Court. The judge also forbid the lawmaker from visiting his constituency during the gubernatorial elections.
