Hoodlums beat up Sowore as security operatives look on

Some hoodlums reportedly attacked Omoyele Sowore, an activist and publisher of Saharareporters, at the Federal High Court, Abuja, while security operatives looked on.

According to ThePunch, some scruffy-looking men had suddenly pounced on Sowore, slapping and hitting him. The report added that the security operatives at the entrance of the court reluctantly intervened, only after journalists and lawyers accused them of indulging the invaders.

Sowore was said to be at court on Thursday in solidarity with Biafra secessionist Nnamdi Kanu, who was arraigned on terrorism charges.

“ I am here to check the registry because for a while I have not been charged. I need to know about my treason case”, he said.

“Also I am here to witness the trial of my friend, Nnamdi Kanu.  The court is a public space and the public should not be barred from accessing the courtroom.

“People have the right to self-determination. Nigeria has not worked and will never work. So Nnamdi Kanu is not wrong and his trial should not be in secret

“Security operatives have consistently failed to do their jobs and now you see them harassing journalists and lawyers,” Sowore added.
