Some gunmen, on Monday, unleashed terror on different communities in Nigeria’s southeastern states of Abia, and Imo.

Cornet News gathered that armed men, suspected to be members of the outlawed Eastern Security Network -the militant wing of the equally proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) – exchanged gunfire with soldiers on counter-insurgency operations in Abia.

Reports say that the gunmen tried to forcefully enforce a sit-at-home on residents and businesses, leading to violent confrontation with soldiers of the 14 Brigade, Ohafia, stationed in Aba.

One gunman was reportedly killed in the Osisioma Ngwa area, along the Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway.

In another horrific scene, gunmen bludgeoned a man to death for defying the violent group’s imposed curfew. The attackers also destroyed a well-known eatery , Evaris Chickens and Fries, similarly opening for business.

Abia’s cousin, Imo, also saw fatal attacks from another set of gunmen, who killed four police officers and a Point-of-Sale agent at a checkpoint, along the Owerri-Onitsha Road. The assailants reportedly caught the slain officers unawares.

This medium reports that, prior to the Monday evening grisly murders, gunmen in a previous scenario shot dead three members of a vigilante group and a teenager in the Umuaka community, Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State.
