Gunmen kill ex-NPC commissioner, abduct his daughters

Gunmen have killed Zakari Umaru-Kigbu, a former commissioner of the National Population Commission (NPC), and abducted two of his daughters in Nasarawa State.

The incident reportedly occurred early Sunday morning at the deceased’s residence in Azuba Bashayi, Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

DailyTrust is reporting that the kidnappers are asking for a ransom of N50 before they will release the victims.

The diseased, who was a retired Air Force officer, was aged 60.

ASP Ramhan Nansel, the spokesperson for Nasarawa police command, said the police got a distress call at 12.20am on Sunday.

“We responded to the distressed call and immediately deployed our partrol teams of the command and the military also drafted its men to the scene of the incident to support the Nigeria Police Force so as to rescue the two daughters of the diseased unhurt.”

He said Umaru-Kigbu died at the Dalhatu Raf Specialist Hospital (DASH), Lafia, where he was rushed to for urgent medical attention.

“The command has launched a manhunt for the perpetrators,” he added.
