168 suspects arrested for rape

The Nigeria Police Force has announced the arrest of 168 suspects arrested for rape-related offences. Apart from the suspects, the police said they equally apprehended

288 persons for armed robbery, 187 persons for kidnap offences, 198 for homicide, and 59 others for illegal possession of prohibited firearms.

In addition, the police said 265 persons were arrested for their involvement in cultism, and, 1891 others for various other offences. The arrests, according to the police, took place within the past five weeks.

Recoveries made include 127 firearms, 612 assorted ammunition, and 89 stolen vehicles.

Equally, the police said they freed 71 kidnap victims held by their captors during the operations.

The police said they discovered 234 stolen vehicles through the Central Motor System.

Olukayode Egbetokun, the acting Inspector-General of Police, reeled out the feats while meeting with senior police officers in Abuja.

He attributed the success to “the combined efforts of our officers, the support from the government, the cooperation, and the assistance received from state governments, and members of the public.”
