Court grants IGP’s request for arrest Fubara’s CoS Edison Ehie

Justice Emeka Nwite of the federal high court has ordered the arrest of Edison Ehie, the newly appointed chief of staff to Governor Siminalaye Fubara of Rivers State.

The order was based on an ex-parte application instituted by Inspector General of Police, requesting order for Ehie and five other persons arrest.

The police claimed the accused burnt down the Rivers State house of assembly complex, in violation of Sections 37, 113, 114, 84, and 184 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015 and Section 35 of the 1999 Constitution as well as Section 32 of the Police Act 2020.

Ehie and his co-accused persons are facing accusations of conspiracy, arson, terrorism, attempted murder, and murder of a Superintendent of Police, Bako Agbashim, and five other police informants.

“That an order of this Honourable Court is hereby made issuing a warrant of arrest against Ehie, Bala, Benneth, Joseph, Oyagiri, and Chibuike (aka Rambo) fleeing defendants in the case,” the judge ruled.

The house of assembly was blown up on October 30, 2023. The incident was linked alleged move by loyalists of Governor Fubara to prevent his impeachment by the majority of the lawmakers.

Ehie would later declared himself the speaker of the house of assembly, as elected by four members allied to his faction. He also declared the seats of the majority of the lawmakers vacant.
