Gambia’s vice president dies in India

Gambian Vice President Badara Joof has died in India. The country’s leader Adama Barrow tweeted the tragic news.

“Fellow #Gambians, it is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing away of my #VicePresident, His Excellency, Badara Alieu Joof. The sad event took place in India after a short illness. May Allah grant him Jannahtul Firdawsi,” he tweeted.

The vice-president succumbed to his illness at an Indian hospital where he was being treated.

TheCornet reports that Doof was a civil servant before he joined politics, and he was Minister for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology from 2017 to 2022.

He was educated at the University of Bristol, University of London, and University of Bath.
