Fugitive Asaba doctor allegedly plucks infant’s eye, slices off ear

A medical doctor from Asaba, Delta state, has continued to evade police questioning over a patient’s accusation that the facility had his dead infant child’s eyes, face, and ear removed.

Promise John, 36, the father of the dead child, said he reported the matter to the police, after the private hospital handed him the infant’s mutilated body.

In his narration, John said, “The doctor on duty said the baby was dead. I wanted to take the body away that night but they refused, saying I had to pay the balance of the hospital bills.

“On Monday morning, I went back to check but it was a different body that I saw. They had cut off the face, removed the eyes, removed one side of the ear. When I asked the nurse what happened to the body, she said she did not know anything about it.”

John added that the on-duty “nurse took photographs of the body and then called her colleagues to arrange the body.”

“I was confused. I took the body and went to show it to my family. We later took it to the police station,” he said.

Following his complaint, John said that the police arrested three nurses, one of whom was on duty the day the infant died.

He equally said  the doctor continues to spurn police invitation and had not been seen despite the nurses’ arrest.
