Buhari in Kano, condoles with family of blast victims

President Muhammadu Buhari, on Monday, visited Kano and condoled with families of the victims of the recent blast that took place at the Sabon gari area of the state.

The President was in Kano to attend the Nigerian AirForce Week event.

TheCornet reports that the explosion, the cause of which the police initially attributed to a gas cylinder, killed nine persons and injured some others.

Not many believed the police account on the incident as claims that it could be suicide bombing became rife.

Few days after the incident, the police clarified the blast was occasioned by “illicit storage of toxic chemicals and other hazardous materials.” A man, identified as Michael Adejo was the owner of the stores housing the explosive substances. However, Adejo died in the blast.

The police said its latest findings was the result of an investigation by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal-Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defense, EOD-CBRN, and Operation Puff Adder of the Nigerian Police.

Police said that “items recovered at the scene include five bottles of different brands of Acidic Liquid, three bags of Potassium substance, one Jerrican of mixed chemicals, six and a half cartons of Snuff (Tobacco) and five drums of Polymer (Chemical)”.

Meanwhile, Kano Governor Abdullahi Ganduje said he had given N9 million as compensation to bereaved families. He said also that each of the injured persons received N2million and N1million respectively.

The governor also said he gave the owners of a business centre, known as African Centre N2million for the damage it suffered, while Winners Academy got N1million for the injuries some of its pupils sustained.
