For Criticising Buhari, Ganduje Sacks Aide

Abdullahi Ganduje, the governor of Kano State, Northwestern Nigeria, has sacked his media adviser Salihu Tanko Yakasai for criticising the country’s President Muhammadu Buhari. Yakasai, until his sack, was Special Adviser on Media to the governor.

The sacked aide had tweeted concerning worsening insecurity in Nigeria, particularly the spate of kidnapping of school children.

“Clearly, we as APC government, at all levels, have failed Nigerians in the number one duty we were elected to do which is to secure lives and properties. Not a single day goes by without some sort of insecurity in this land. This is a shame! Deal with terrorists decisively or resign”, he tweeted.

“This is sad and heartbreaking, I feel helpless and hopeless. “I completely agree. Hypocrisy is in our DNA. Imagine what’s happening in the North now under GEJ or OBJ, what you will hear is he’s the enemy of the North and Muslims, but here we are, being ravaged by all sorts of insecurity but no collective rage, sai useless lamentations. SMDH.”

Muhammad Garba, the state’s Commissioner for Information, in a statement said Yakassi “failed to differentiate between personal opinion and official stand on matters of public concern”. He also said Yakassi could no longer “be allowed to continue to serve in a government he does not believe.”

There are reports indicating operatives of the Department of State Security, (DSS), has arrested Yakassi.

However, TheCornet could not verify this, while the security police has not commented on the alleged arrest either.
