Emefiele: Court refuses request barring INEC, AGF
Godwin Emefiele has lost his bid to have the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Attorney-general of the federation barred. The CBN governor, in a suit he filed, asked the court to bar the INEC and the AGF perpetually from stopping his pursuit to contest the presidential election.

Emefiele’s lawyer, Mike Ozekhome (SAN), asked the court to declare that his client can pursue his presidential ambition without resigning his office. He also argues that Emefiele is not barred by the provision of Section 84 ((12) of the Electoral Act as amended, stating he is a public servant and not a political appointee.
In its ruling, the court rather summonsed INEC, and AGF to appear before it on May 12, to show cause why it should not grant the CBN governor’s prayers.
