Ekiti man sells father for N1.8m to be used for ritual purposesÂ

A man, Sunday Obasuyi, from Agbado-Ekiti in Gbonyi Local Government Area of Ekiti state, is being accused of selling off his 82-year-old father to some suspected ritualists.

The police arrested Obasuyi, 42, and two others — Akinniyi (51) and Bobafe Sunday (51)— after discovering the victim’s corpse inside a shallow grave where it was dumped.

The law enforcement the arraigned the three suspects before a magistrate’s court, presided over by Mr. Bankole Okuwasanmi.

The prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendants conspired among themselves, kidnapped and murdered the aged man on February 1.

The prosecutor equally alleged that the victim’s son, Obasuyi, sold his father to Akinniyi for N1.8m, who in turn handed the victim to Sunday, an herbalist, for the ritual purposes.

He averred that the suspects offences contravened Sections 280, 279 and 234 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

The magistrate, after listening to the prosecutor, ordered the suspects remand in prison custody pending the advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
