EFCC Declares Yahaya Bello Wanted

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has declared former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, wanted. The declaration follows his arraignment in absentia for committing financial crimes.

EFCC  notice posted to its website reads: “Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, is wanted by the EFCC for offences relating to economic and financial crimes to the tune of N80.2 bn.

“Anybody with information as to his whereabout should report immediately to the commission or the nearest police station.”

On Wednesday, there was a standoff between some armed EFCC officials deployed to arrest Bello at his Abuja residence. While the officials kept vigil in front of Bello’s premises, the politician stayed put in his residence.

Amid the standoff, Bello’s s handpicked successor, Governor Usman Ododo, stormed his residence and whisked him away in his official car.
