Tinubu to announce new workers’ pay Oct. 1

President Bola Tinubu will likely announce a new workers’ salary during his October 1 independence anniversary speech.

Olajide Oshundun, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Labour and Productivity, reportedly said this in his response to a media enquiry. He had stated the government’s plan to stop the labour unions from proceeding on a nationwide strike, starting October 3.

Labour is aggrieved about the federal government’s delay in implementing the palliatives package it promised Nigerians.

The removal of petrol subsidy amid rising inflation has raised transportation and commodity prices beyond the reach of the poor. Labour is demanding palliatives for Nigerians and a new workers’ pay to mitigate the hardship the situation had brought on Nigerians.

Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) president, Joe Ajero, accused the government of being non-committal to meeting their demands.

He said, “Nigerians are tired of a lot of meetings, lots of promises, what we want is concrete action, so we are tired of promises and promises.”

TheCornet had reported the federal government plans to give loans, and grains from the national reserve to state governors, who are expected to distribute the same to their citizens.
