Edo govt. gives clarification on train kidnapped victims

Edo State government has said only 20 people were kidnapped at the Igueben train station. This is contrary to reports which put the number of victims at 32.

In a statement, Chris Nekhihare, the commissioner for communication and orientation in the state, said that seven victims were rescued while 13 others are still in captivity.

He said, “From intelligence report, the kidnappers only took 20 hostages as against 32 initially reported.”

The commissioner equally said the state’s Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu had assured the Igueben community leaders and residents of their safety and the steps the government is taking to curb crime.

TheCornet had reported that some unknown gunmen stormed the Tom Ikimi train station, in Igueben, where they kidnapped the victims.

A similar train kidnap incident had occured last March in Kaduna.
