Democratic Party retains control of US Senate in hard-fought election

United States’ Democratic Party has retained its control of the Senate after a crucial race it won in Nevada in the recently held midterms election.

With Democratic Senator Catherine Cortez Masto’s victory in Nevada, the party secured 50 seats, one seat ahead of the Republican Party.

Despite the current win, the Democratic Party is expected to square off with a Republican Party in a runoff in Georgia.

In the eventuality of a tie, US Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to break the tie. Being a member of the Democratic Party member, Harris is expected to deliver victory to her party.

The victory is also another boost for president Joe Biden after his party defied immediate fears that his low popularity ratings and an electorate battered by high inflation would translate to punishment at the polls.

The Democrats also defied historical precedent, as the party holding the White House often loses heavily in midterm elections.
