Customs intercept ammunition hidden in bags of rice

Men of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have intercepted several live ammunition hidden in bags of cassava and rice, along Igbora, in Oyo State.

Theophilus Duniya, spokesperson for the NCS’ Special Assignment Team of Federal Operations Unit (Zone ‘A’), said this in his statement released on Monday.

The statement said the ammunition was conveyed in three Mazda saloon cars.

The ammunition was 751 pieces of AAA, and another 70mm live Lion Cartridges.

Customs urged citizens to provide the service with useful information that could help combat smuggling in the country.

“It is an act of sabotage that should not be allowed to fester for a long time, most especially with the security challenges in the country. Information is key and germane towards the fight against this cankerworm called smuggling,” said the unit’s acting comptroller Hussein Ejibunu.
