Youth imprisoned for killing 8-year-old sibling over minor argument

A man is to spend between 40 and 60 years in prison for shooting his eight years old sister to death after a minor argument.
Gyasi Stribling from Michigan, in the United States, shot his sister, Bailei Singleton, in the living room of their apartment because she was “talking back” to him. Gyasi ditched the gun after the shooting but police found it. Bailei did not die instantly but eventually succumbed to her injuries some days later.
At the beginning of investigation into the fratricide, Gyasi had falsely claimed a bullet hit his sister during a robbery. However, relatives who witnessed the incident blew the lid on Bailei’s death, leading to Gyasi’s prosecution. A jury convicted Gyasi after the incident that occurred in 2021, at which time he was 20 years.
As per Law&Crime, a jury, last month, sentenced Gyasi to decades-long imprisonment for his crime.
The prosecutor, Karen McDonald, in a statement, said: “Bailei Singleton should still be here with us today.”
“It’s unconscionable that anyone, let alone an 8-year-old child, could be murdered by a relative and in their own home over the slightest of disagreements.
“This case is, unfortunately, a reminder of how gun violence is a public health epidemic that can end a life in an instant.”
