Trump’s threat sparks renewed vigour as Nigeria rearrests Jihadist who killed 19 Christians

US President Donald Trump’s threat to order military strike in northern Nigeria over the killing of Christians seemed to have ignited renewed vigour in the country’s counter-terrorism measures as the Department of State Services (DSS), on Friday, announced that it had recaptured a wanted terrorist, Abdulazeez Obadaki.

The said Obadeki, in 2012, was part of those who attacked the Deeper Life Church, Okenne, Kogi State, killing no fewer than 19 worshippers.

Obadeki was detained at the Kuje Prisons until a 2022 jailbreak that set him and other terrorists free. The authorities said that over 800 inmates escaped during the jailbreak.

Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu, recently, had reshuffled the heads of security agencies in the country. His action preceded Trump’s accusations.

The Nigerian Government has denied the allegation that a Christian genocide was ongoing in the country, including having state officials feature on foreign news platforms to counter the narrative while welcoming assistance from the United States.
