Terrorists in Nigeria’s northern region kill 13 hunters
Terrorists suspected to be members of the Lakurawa have killed at least 13 farmers during a hunting expedition by the deceased in the Hurumi Forest, located in Tangaza Local Government Area, Sokoto State.
Daily Trust is reporting that the incident happened last Thursday, at about 12 noon. The report said the hunters had shunned local authorities warning not to venture into the area due to the terrorists’ activities.
“Three bodies have been recovered so far, while 10 remain unaccounted for. Some survivors have returned home,” a resident of Tangaza, said.
The Lukarawa terrorists, last Friday, reportedly bombed a MTN telecommunication mast cited in Magonho village in Tangaza. An unnamed local government official mentioned in the report the assailants abducted some hunters.
“We’re still trying to determine if they’re alive or have been killed,” he said.
Ghazzali Aliyu Rakah, special adviser on security matters to the Chairman of Tangaza LGA, said security operatives and local vigilantes had launched a search for the missing hunters.
“We have been working since Saturday, but a shortage of security personnel and patrol vehicles is hampering our efforts. We’ve mobilised officers from Raka, Tsauna, and Binji to support the operation,” he said.
Sokoto State Police Command spokesman, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, confirmed two bodies were recovered and have been buried.
