Authorities have arrested three Ghanaian women for attempting to import hard drugs into the country. They are Haziza Zubairu, 42; Samirat Mustapha, 43; and Jamila Salifu, 26. In a statement, on Sunday, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA0 said that it intercepted the women at Gbaji checkpoint, along the Seme border area of Badagry, in Lagos.

The suspects had attempted to smuggle 4.8kilograms of Ghana Loud, a strong strain of cannabis into Nigeria.

The arrest comes as the NDLEA, in a separate operation, busted 60-year-old grandma, Safiya Shamsu, at Samegu area of Kumbotso LGA. The sexagenarian reportedly had 5.6kg skunk, a strain of cannabis in her possession at the time of arrest. In related development, the eagle-eyed anti-drug operatives foiled the 35 years old Muntari Labaran’s attempt to smuggle 100 litres of codeine syrup.

Praising the officers for the feats, NDLEA boss, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) for the efforts at “ensuring a fair balance between their drug supply reduction and drug demand reduction efforts.”
