JAMB uncovers 17, 417 fake admissions, as desperate candidates patronise forgers

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has uncovered 17,417 fake tertiary institutions entry letters and is currently prosecuting five forgers believed to have issued them at the federal high court in Abuja.

JAMB’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, explained that JAMB cleared some 6,903 candidates after minor discrepancies were detected in their admission between 2024 and May 2025. In addition, Benjamin said another 10,514 candidates were directed to report to face a police probe of their admission issues.

Of this figure, the police found 5,669 candidates to have procured forged admission letters. He also stated that another 4,832 candidates, who were meant to regularise their admission with JAMB based on (2017-2020) ministerial waiver, instead patronised the forgers.

JAMB vowed to prosecute any candidate that involves in forging admission letters and, at the same time, punish those who deviate from its established guidelines.
