EFCC ends speculations, pulls Ex-NNPC boss Melee Kyari out of ‘well-deserved rest’

It was Melee Kyari, former group managing director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, who said in March that speculation about his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, was a ruse. He also at the time said that he was taking “a well-deserved rest”, calling claims his stewardship had come under EFCC scrutiny “a clear case of mischief and calculated falsehood.”
However, on Wednesday, the EFCC ended speculation that Kyari had questions to answer. An EFCC source allegedly confirmed Kyari was in their facility, answering to questions on his activities while in office.
Cornet News gathered that Kyari would have to answer to billions of naira involved in transactions he superintended as NNPC GMD.
Kyari, the longest serving official of the state-oil company, in March, reacted to allegations of his arrest at the time but promised to submit himself, if asked to do so.
“I sincerely thank my family and friends who reached out. I assure everyone that I remain available and accountable to all lawful authorities,” he said at the time.
