Court of Appeal awards cost against Akpabio in Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan suit

The Court of Appeal has awarded a N100, 000 cost against President of Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio after he withdrew two motions he filed in his appeal against a previous judgement given by federal high court judge, Obiora Egwuatu.

Akpabio had accused Egwuatu of bias and asked him to recuse himself from hearing the sexual harassment case, filed by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan against him. He further lodged an appeal against the judgment, while he also filed two motions seeking to extend the time allowable by an applicant to file an appeal but later withdrew the motions.

Although the appellate court allowed the withdrawal of the motions, it also awarded the cost against Akpabio.

TheCornet News reports that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has sued the senate president and clerk of the national assembly, challenging her suspension for six months by the Senate’s ethics and privileges committee. The Senate committee issued the suspension, only after the embattled Kogi Senator Natasha accused Sen. Akpabio of sexually harassing her. But the Senator committee said it took the decision due to Natasha’a alleged disregard to Senate Rules.
