Court sentences man to death by hanging

The Kano State High Court on Thursday sentenced a man, Sagiru Abdullahi, (29), to death by hanging for killing his step-mother Zainab Dan’Azumi.

Before his sentencing, the prosecution counsel Tijjani Ibrahim told the court that Abdullahi stabbed the victim to death on June 2014 at Kurmawa Quarters, Kano. He explained that Zainab died of the machete cuts Abdullahi inflicted on her.

He said the convict dealt several machete cuts on the victim’s head, leading to her death.

“The victim was rushed to the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano, where she was confirmed dead by a doctor,” he said.

Ruling, trial judge Aisha Mahmoud convicted Abdullahi on one count of culpable homicide.
