Court restrains PDP national chairman Iyorchia Ayu

A Benue state high court has restrained the embattled national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, from continuing in office.

The ruling by Justice W.I. Kpochi is coming after the PDP in Ayu’s ward, in Benue state, suspended him for anti-party activities and failure to pay his mandatory membership dues.

But Ayu continues to insist only the party’s national executive committee has the power to suspend him.

The latest court order seems to have deepened the rift among leaders of the opposition party. The interim order was sought by one Engr Conrad Terhide Utaan, a member of the party.

The court adjourned hearing into the matter till April 17.
