Court gives fresh order for Diezani’s arrest

A federal court in Nigeria has issued a fresh order for arrest of former minister of petroleum, Diezani Alison-Madueke.

Justice Bolaji Olajuwon issued the order following an application by Farouk Abdullah, counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

“We urge my lord to issue an arrest warrant against Alison-Madueke, who is believed to be in the UK to enable all law enforcement agencies and the INTERPOL to arrest her anywhere she is sighted and be brought before this court to answer to the allegation made against her,” Abdullah told the court.

Alison-Madueke is wanted over alleged corruption and money-laundering.

Her absence has stalled her trial in court.

Justice Olajuwon granted the order and adjourned the case indefinitely, pending Alison-Madueke’s extradition to Nigeria.

The Cornet reports that the EFCC has linked Diezani to fraudulent award of Strategic Alliance Agreement (SAA) to Septa Energy limited, Atlantic Energy Drilling Concept Limited, and Atlantic Energy Brass Development Limited.

The agency also links Alison-Madueke to the case of $115bn bribery, in the alleged bid to influence the outcome of the 2015 presidential election.
