Justice James Omotoso, of the Federal High Court in Abuja, has fixed October 14 for the arraignment of a former Accountant-General of the Federation, Anamekwe Nwabuoku.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has alleged that Nwabuoku and his co-defendant Felix Nweke laundered the sum of N1.6 billion. The accused persons committed the alleged offence between 2019 and 2021.

Counsels to both Nwabuoku and his co-defendant Felix Nweke told Justice Omotosho on Wednesday that the accused persons had begun to make refund to the anti-graft agency. In her response, Ogechi Ujam, who appeared for the EFCC, confirmed that the accused persons had proposed to refund the money, but denied both parties had reached an agreement.

“No settlement has been done and no agreement has been reached by parties,” Ujam stated.

“In the circumstances, we urge this honourable court to allow us to arraign the defendants,” she added.

Justice Omotosho ruled that the defendants should be arraigned on the next court date.
