Church overseer gets bail in drug trial
Ugochukwu Emmanuel Ekwem, who is the general overseer of Christ Living Hope Church, has been granted bail after he was arraigned for drug exporting.
TheCornet had reported Ekwem’s arrest at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
He was found to be possession of 54 sticks of joints.
The anti-narcotics agency said Ekwem said he had wanted to smoke the joints at his crusade billed to hold in Kenya.
The NDLEA subsequently arraigned Ekwen on a one-count charge of unlawful export of the banned drug.
He was first arraigned on 29 March. Ekwem pleaded “not guilty” to the charge.
In his ruling, Justice Osiagor of the Federal High Court, Lagos, granted him N2 million bail, with a surety who must be a director in a Federal or Lagos State government establishment.
He ordered that Ekwem be remanded in NCoS custody till the perfection of his bail conditions.
