Chrisland Schools face prosecution for student’s death

Chrisland Schools would be prosecuted for the death of a student, Whitney Adeniran, the Lagos state government said.

Adeniran was electrocuted to death during the school’s inter-house sports, held at the Agege Stadium in Lagos.

In a statement released on Friday, the state government said it is charging the school with involuntary manslaughter, reckless and negligent act.

The government explained that the offences contravened Sections 224 & 251 of the Criminal Law, Ch C17, Vol.3, Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The statement followed that the police investigated Adeniran’s death, after which the DPP advised that the school, some of its staff members and vendors should be charged.

The highbrow private school initially lied that the student did not take part in the outdoor activities and had reported to the school sick.

The deceased’s parents however countered the school, insisting their child was hale and hearty.

The mother also contradicted the school’s initial claim that the student slumped and died.
