Cash-for-honour scandal taints British monarchy

A cash-for-honour scandal has tainted the British monarchy as a foundation led by the Prince of Wales becomes the center of an ongoing police probe.

The Prince of Wales Foundation – founded by Britain’s future king Charles – is alleged to have offered a knighthood to a Saudi billionaire in return for donation.

Michael Fawcett, who is the chief executive of the foundation, reportedly wrote to Saudi billionaire Mahfouz Marei Mubarak bin Mahfouz, offering to change his honorary CBE to a knighthood, and support his application for citizenship.

The 2017 letter became public following its publication by a news organisation.

However, Prince Charles is said to be oblivious of the solicitation and has promised to help the Metropolitan Police in their investigation.
