Buni’s aide explains his absence amidst confusion in APC

Yusuf Ali, an aide to Yobe Governor Mai Mala Buni, has said his absence should not be mistaken as an exit from the party leadership.

TheCornet reported yesterday that Abubakar Sani Bello, the governor of Niger State, resumed as the “acting chairman” of the party while Buni is said to be overseas.

While at the secretariat, but under heavy security presence, Bello inaugurated the state chairmen of the party and received a report of an ad-hoc committee set up to review the party’s zoning arrangement.

Despite his absence shrouded in confusion, Buni is said to be abreast of Bello’s actions.

“He went for treatment abroad and his deputy, the Governor of Niger State took over party affairs,” said Ali.

Ali added that “all the APC governors are behind Mai Mala Buni and they support his leadership 100 per cent”.

“Mai Mala is beyond what anybody can imagine. He is a very smart politician and he knows the game well enough to be pushed aside.

“When the chairman of the party is not around, who do you expect to take over party affairs, is it not the vice chairman? Who is the vice chairman of the party? It is Abubakar Bello and he has done just that.”

Equally, John James Akpanudoedehe, APC’s Secretary of Caretaker Committee, insisted Buni remained the leader of the party in a thumbnail release he issued. Akpanudoedehe asked the public to disregard what he called “an imaginary leadership change” in the APC.

Similarly, Yekini Nabena, deputy national publicity secretary of the APC national caretaker committee said Buni would return to the country on Tuesday.

“The chairman (Buni) is coming back to the country on Tuesday.

“When he comes back, we will know the true picture of things.

“This has never happened before,” he said, adding he warned the Niger State Governor Bello to desist from calling a meeting of the party’s national executive committee.
