Buhari’s aide calls out banks over infrastructure neglect

Tolu Ogunlesi, the Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Digital and New Media, has called out banks in the country for being noncommittal to the incumbent administration’s infrastructure drive.

Ogunlesi, in his post on Twitter, wondered why none of the banks has yet to undertake any infrastructural project.

He alluded to notable corporate organisations undertaking different projects under the Federal Government’s special Road Infrastructure Tax Credit Scheme.

“Last year, MTN Nigeria announced plans to reconstruct the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway under President Buhari’s road infrastructure tax credit scheme. Glo also expressed interest in Ota-Idiroko Road. Dangote Group, NLNG and NNPC already committed. Where are the Banks please??”, he tweeted.

The infrastructure tax credit encourages private companies to undertake construction and rehabilitation of federal roads, with the government defraying their cost through their payable Companies Income Tax.
