Buhari replaces Adeyeye with Eimunjeze as NAFDAC DG
President Muhammadu Buhari has replaced Professor Mojisola Adeyeye with Monica Eimunjeze, who will serve as the acting Director-General of the National Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
Adeyeye’s had served a renewable tenure ending November 2. It is unlikely Adeyeye knew of her impending removal before it happened. Adeyeye, according to a report, had planned to attend an official engagement and directed Eimunjeze act in her stead during her absence.
An alleged NAFDAC memo signed by its Deputy Director, Admin and Human Resources Directorate, dated November 17 reportedly contained the new appointment.
The memo, with reference number NAFDAC/ADM/SM/075, has as its subject: “Appointment of Acting Director General NAFDAC.”
It reads in part, “The management is in receipt of a letter appointing Dr Monica Eimunjeze as the Acting Director General NAFDAC with effect from 12th November 2022.
“I am therefore directed to bring this development to you for information and guidance.”
The replacement, Eimunjeze, graduated from the department of Pharmacy at the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria in 1986.
She equally bagged a doctorate degree in Pharmacy (Pharm D) from Mercer University, Atlanta Georgia, and a Master of Science (MSc) in Biotechnology, Innovation, and Regulatory Science from Purdue University. She had worked with GlaxoSmithKline, among others.
Until her latest appointment, Eimunjeze was the NAFDAC’s director of registration and regulatory affairs.
