Buhari in Adamawa, says why Binani should be elected governor

President Muhammadu Buhari Monday  campaigned for the election of Senator Aisha Binani as governor of Adamawa State in the forthcoming election.

Should Binani get elected, it would be a historical first as Nigeria’s first elected female governor.

In his tweet, President Buhari said that the “people of Adamawa have the opportunity to set a record in our nation’s history & politics, by putting into office Nigeria’s first elected female governor.”

He added: “I am calling on all the people of Adamawa, and Nigeria, to support Senator Aisha Binani and ensure her victory in March!”

Binani had fought off her male contenders, notably Nuhu Ribadu.

Ribadu, a former police officer and one-time chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), had sued Binani over the Guber ticket but lost the case. He is said to have been persuaded by his ally and presidential candidate Bola Tinubu to let go and support Binani for the post.

Binani, if elected, would have dusted Virgy Etiaba’s record as the first female governor. Etiaba had succeeded Peter Obi as governor of Anambra State when the state assembly impeached the latter. She later handed over power back to Obi after the court declared his removal illegal.
