Banditry: Female hunters rise in defense of Buhari’s home state
Female hunters in President Muhammadu Buhari’s home state, Katsina, have vowed to crush banditry.
Katsina lists among states in Nigeria’s north plagued by banditry.
The hunters, under the aegis of Katsina State Chapter of the Nigeria Hunters Council, NHC, indicated their readiness to the state government.
The leader of the hunters, Hajiya Ummah Dauda, who is also the Assistant Commandant General (ACG), led her members on a visit to the Secretary to the State Government Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa.
“As hunters, we know the forest very well and the truth is we are in a better position to help the government in fighting bandits. Besides, our members are well fortified and bullets cannot penetrate us. We are trained warriors, and fighters.
“That is why we are appealing to the government to carry us along in their bid to tame the menace of banditry experienced in the state
“Our work force in each local government areas are more than a hundred. In some LGAs, we have over one hundred hunters and all of them are warriors.
“Some of our members here single-handedly arrested bandits in the past and handed them to security operatives.
“Sir, with the kind permission of the state government, we are ready to hit the forest and fish out these bandits even right now,” ACG Ummah declared.
Responding, Inuwa assured the hunters that government would bring them on board.
