Atiku, Obi working to truncate Nigerian democracy – Tinubu

Bola Tinubu, Nigeria’s president-elect, has alleged his former opponents-Abubakar Atiku and Peter Obi-are scheming to thwart the May 29 transition.

Festus Keyamo, the spokesperson for Tinubu campaign, made the allegation in a statement released on Saturday.

Keyamo accused Atiku and Obi of planning to stage street protest, after filing petitions against his victory and separately asking to be declared the winner of the presidential race.

“We are aware of the intentions of those engaged in these treasonable and subversive acts.

“We also know those involved in the many plots being contrived to undermine the transition in particular and democracy in general. They are fixated on an Interim Government,” Keyamo said.

The minister added that despite the plot, “It is gratifying that … the Presidential Transition Council has remained focused and committed …to organizing a hitch-free handover”.

Keyamo equally added that the ruling party would work with security agencies to thwart any sinister plan to frustrate Tinubu’s inauguration as Nigeria’s next president.

He said, “Those who are dissatisfied with the declaration must conduct themselves within the ambit of the law.”

“Those who are stoking the embers of hate, division and falsehoods as well as peddling misleading narratives through some compromised media outlets should detract from such.”
