ASUU finally declares strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has finally declared a nationwide strike. The lecturer’s body said the 4-week strike is a warning to government to accede to its demands.

Emmanuel Victor Osodeke, the national president of ASUU, broke the news during a press conference on Monday.

The lecturers’ body said its demands bordering on salaries and allowances as well as the adoption of the University Transparency Accountability Solution (UTAS) payroll software has not been met.

TheCornet reports that the union had a two-day meeting and the resolutions of which it promised to inform the nation.

It was also reported that religious and traditional leaders had appealed to the lecturers to shelve the strike, which ASUU eventually declared on Monday.
