Umahi rules Peter Obi out of contest for Ebonyi votes

David Umahi, the governor of Ebonyi state, has said Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obiis not entitled to votes from the state in the 2023 election.

Umahi, an All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart, said voters in his state would rather vote his party’s candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Obi, being a southeastern, has attracted huge support from people of the region.

However, Umahi, also from the region, said he would rather focus on ensuring his party’s victory in the state.

“We will not vote for Labour Party, we will only vote for APC. Our vote is for APC and not for the Labour Party.

“Our agenda is Ebonyi agenda. We will vote for our presidential candidate in the person of Tinubu. We must strive to liberate Ebonyi State and that is our agenda,” said the governor while swearing-in five commissioners and two special assistants into his cabinet, on Monday.

Umahi had contested for the presidential ticket of APC, alongside Tinubu and others.

He however struggle to garner 38 votes. He would later accuse the Igbo social-cultural group Ohanaeze Ndigbo of failing to support the presidential aspirants from the region.
