Anambra pastor caught trying to smuggle marijuana to Kenya
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, says its operatives arrested one Rev. Ugochukwu Emmanuel Ekwem, on March 7, for drug pushing.
Ekwem was said to be the General Overseer of Christ Living Hope Church, located in Anambra State.
He was reportedly arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Ikeja Lagos, with 54 sticks of drugs wrapped around his body.
Ekwem, the agency said, was on his way to a three-week crusade in Nairobi, Kenya at the time of arrest.
“The 54 sticks proved positive to cannabis and that the clergyman confessed he wanted to use the illicit substance during his three weeks crusade in Kenya,” the NDLEA said.
Another arrest by the agency is that of Nnakeanyi Chukwuka King, who arrived at the airport on from Sao Paulo, Brazil.
“During a search of his luggage, forty (40) parcels of Cocaine concealed inside bottles of body cream with a gross weight of 9.70kg were recovered from the suspect,” NDLEA said.
Two days after both arrests, another suspect, Edo Blessing, was intercepted while carrying 2, 090 tablets of Tramadol 225mg and Flunitrazepam.
Blessing hails from Edo State, but resides in Italy,and he reportedly owned up to the drug.
Another suspect, Rafiu Abbas, a freight forwarder was arrested at the NAHCO Export Shed with a cargo containing 19.15kg cannabis. The destination for the drug was London.
“The illicit substance was concealed inside plastic containers labelled as “African Dishes” and packed in a bag,” the NDLEA said.
Similarly, 63-year-old Vincent Obimma was arrested last Friday 11th, with 350grams of cocaine and 150grams of heroin. The drugs were hidden in industrial torch packets and were destined for Kano, Kano state.
In Kaduna, NDLEA effected the arrest of James Okenwa, who allegedly admitted to owning 1,959 bottles of the codeine syrup.
The agency also announced different drug-related arrests in Yobe and Anambra.
In Yobe, two fake security agents, namely Akalonu Justin and Azimbi Festus were arrested with 25 blocks of Cannabis Sativa weighing 12 .5kg and 1, 598 bottles of Codeine Syrup weighing 159.8 Liters,
In Anambra state, a total of 38,605 tablets of assorted opioids were recovered from a 29-year-old drug dealer, Awoke Friday.
