Anambra monarchs fleeing their palaces over insecurity – Rep

A member of the House of Representatives, Chris Azubogu, has said traditional rulers in Anambra State have started fleeing their palaces over insecurity. He stated this while presenting a motion during plenary on Tuesday.

The lawmaker urged the federal government to “arrest the killings of innocent people in the state”.

He added that incessant attacks “on innocent citizens has created panic and fear in members of the public and affected socio-economic life in the state, especially in Nnewi”.

Similarly, Rep. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, in her motion, said states in the south-east and south-south of the country are rising insecurity. She reinforced the previous resolution in which the federal government was asked to declare a state of emergency on insecurity.

In her contribution, Rep. Lynda Ikpeazu said the situation had brought about “the exodus of people and businesses out of Anambra State”.

She urged the police to “dismantle all illegal checkpoints in the state”, which are now “being  taken over by unknown gunmen.”

The motions were amended and adopted as a resolution of the house.
