Apostle Suleiman escapes death, seven others killed as gunmen rain bullets on convoy

Johnson Suleiman, a Nigerian Christian preacher, escaped death by the whisker but seven others in his convoy lost their lives to a brutal attack by unidentified armed men on Friday.

The gunmen reportedly rained bullet on Suleiman’s convoy while travelling along the Benin-Auchi road, killing three police guards and four others.

Suleman’s lawyer, Samuel Amune, confirmed the attack.

The preacher had just returned from Tanzania, Amune said, and he was going to an undisclosed location in Edo when the gun attack took place.

He said: “He was returning from a journey and he had almost gotten on the shores of Auchi when some assassins attacked him. Three of his police orderlies, among others died. He travelled before and just finished a programme in Tanzania day before yesterday.

“He was returning to Auchi when the gunmen attacked him along Sabingida down to Warake area, and Auchi shares direct boundary with Warake. So, he had passed Warake and was entering the boundaries of Auchi when the attack happened.”

Chuidi Nwabuzor, the spokesperson for the Edo police command reportedly confirmed the incident but claimed go be bereft of the details of the incident.

Apostle Suleiman is the general overseer of the Omega Fire Ministries International, based in Auchi, Edo state.
