Allegation of tribalism taints arrest of ‘Cubana priest’

Social media supporters of the Pascal Okechukwu, aka Cubana priest, are perceiving his reported arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission as a witch-hunt.

They are accusing the anti-graft agency of going for the socialite because he is Ibo.

Ibo is one of the largest tribes in Nigeria, after Hausa-Fulani and Yoruba in the north and south of the country.

TheCornet gathered that Okechukwu was arrested for alleged tax fraud and money laundering.

He was reportedly arrested at the Lagos airport on Thursday.

Report has it that only members of his immediate family were allowed to see him in detention.

The EFCC has not responded to the story of the arrest.

Prior to Okechukwu’s arrest, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, had detained and grilled his friend, Obinna Iyiegbu, aka Obi Cubana for alleged drug dealing. Iyiegbu has since denied the allegation.
